Creating a remote group presentation

Festival of Learning 2020 – Creating a remote group presentation

Due to the current situation the 2nd Annual Festival of Learning will now be held remotely as an extended three day online event in July (14th – 16th). Congratulations on presenting this year and we invite colleagues to submit their pre-recorded sessions via this MS Form.

Video Submission

Creating a video is simple, creative and memorable with it being easy to use your mobile device to film. When you make a film, the process can be split into 3 distinct areas:

We have created a quick guide to creating a video and some advice for using your mobile device.

As there may be more than one person presenting for your submission we have put together some guidance to assist you with creating this group presentation while remote. There are a few different option you could do.

Recording via Panopto

You can individually create a recording on Panopto using a PowerPoint presentation or just recording yourself through your webcam. These can then be downloaded from Panopto to create a .mp4 and then edited together on an external editing software, like WeVideo, one completed and exported from there you can then re-upload to Panopto for final submission.

Recording via WeVideo

You could also use WeVideo to record your session, again using your webcam, recording your screen (and therefore PowerPoint presentation) as well as recording a voiceover. We have a video that will assist you with using WeVideo which can be found here.

To gain access to WeVideo please e-mail tel@derby.ac.uk to gain access to the university’s account stating that you are creating a submission for the Festival of Learning 2020.

Recording via your mobile device

You could also record your section on your mobile device. This can then be uploaded to Panopto for final submission or into WeVideo for further editing.

Using WeVideo to edit recordings together

WeVideo will assist in bringing together all the recordings from the group to form a group presentation for final submission.

To gain access to WeVideo please e-mail tel@derby.ac.uk to gain access to the university’s account stating that you are creating a submission for the Festival of Learning 2020.

Within WeVideo you can add all the individual recordings into one timeline, add music, imagery or voiceover to create the final submission. We have a video that will assist you with using WeVideo which can be found here. One you have completed the video you can now export from WeVideo and upload to Panopto for submission.

Uploading to Panopto

Upload to Panopto is a simple process. Once you have your video (.mov/.mp4, etc) on your computer, go to https://derby.cloud.panopto.eu/ and sign in with your usual Derby University login details.

Panopto screenshot - upload mediaOnce logged in, at the middle top, of the page you will see the blue “Create” button. Click on that and then select “Upload Media”.

Panopto Screenshot - uploadSelect “My Folder” at the top of the pop-up box. You can then either drag and drop your video from your computer into the box or click and find your video within your folder structure.

Panopto Screenshot - share buttonOnce uploaded you then need to change the settings of the video so we’ll be able to view it. Locate the video within your “My Folder” (on the left of the screen), hover over the video you have just uploaded and click “Share”.

Panopto Screenshot - access selectionChange the sharing permissions under ‘who has access’ to “Anyone at your organisation with the link”. Click “Save Changes” at the bottom. The link in this pop-up window is then the one you copy and paste into your submission.

Consent forms for student and external presenters can be downloaded here.
